How to Boil your Bass and Guitar Strings
If you are running low on money and you really need some new bass strings because your current strings are dull sounding, begin to rust, or do not keep in tune, you can boil your bass strings in boiling water. Doing this will help to remove any rust, dirt, oils and dead skin, and also make them sound more brighter and new sounding. You will be surprised on how different they can sound once boiled. If your strings keep going out of tune, boiling them will making them stay in tune for longer. How to boil your strings Place a pan of water to boil on a stove, rap all the strings up so they will fit into the pan. When the water reaches boiling point, place all the strings in the pan for about 5 – 10 minutes (Longer if you feel the need to). After the 5 – 10 minutes is up, take the strings out of the water and wipe them thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth, this will also remove access dirty, etc. Make sure your strings are dry (Leave them to dry for a further 30 minutes after cloth drying to make sure the are completely dry). Use Dr Stringfellows or a cleaning agent such as polish to clean your fretboard itself, if you never clean your strings or fretboard after playing you will find a lot of stuff built up on the fretboard. After you have cleaned your fretboard put your strings back on your bass. Dr Stringfellows |
